Problem / objective

Identify faults across interconnected vehicle systems, complete durable repairs, and improve functionality without losing sight of safety, serviceability, or finish quality.

Design process

  • Diagnosed a misfire and completed related engine service, including valve-cover gaskets and spark plugs.
  • Completed full brake service, wheel-bearing replacement, and suspension work involving tie rods and bushings.
  • Located and repaired an air-conditioning leak, then confirmed the system operated correctly after service.
  • Restored and customized interior components by upholstering plastic trim in suede, and installed and wired double-DIN touchscreen displays.
  • Performed routine tune-ups and preventive maintenance to address wear before it developed into larger failures.

Technical decisions

  • Used symptoms and inspection findings to isolate likely causes before replacing parts, particularly when diagnosing the misfire and A/C leak.
  • Selected repair approaches with safety, long-term serviceability, component condition, and available access in mind.
  • Planned interior and display work around clean fitment, protected wiring, and a finish that looked intentional rather than added on.

Testing & validation

  • Checked engine operation after gasket and ignition-related service to confirm the misfire was resolved.
  • Verified braking, steering, suspension, bearing, climate-control, and electrical behavior after repairs or installation.
  • Used post-repair inspection and road behavior to catch remaining noise, looseness, leakage, or functional issues.

Results

  • Restored reliable operation across engine, braking, suspension, wheel-bearing, and air-conditioning systems.
  • Integrated touchscreen displays and customized interior trim while preserving usability and a clean appearance.
  • Applied the same practical approach in an unplanned setting by helping a stranded older driver replace a failed belt in a parking lot.

Challenges

  • Tracing symptoms across interacting mechanical and electrical systems instead of treating the first visible symptom as the root cause.
  • Completing repairs in both garage and parking-lot conditions while working within the tools, access, and time available.
  • Balancing mechanical function with careful routing, fitment, and finish during interior customization and display installation.

What I learned

  • Disciplined diagnosis saves time and parts by connecting symptoms to root causes before beginning a repair.
  • Good automotive work depends equally on mechanical judgment, verification, clean execution, and the willingness to help when practical skills are needed.
