Problem / objective
Lead a student team in developing a functional differential and coil-spring suspension model from concept through assembled design.
Design process
- Defined the mechanical architecture and divided design responsibilities across the team.
- Modeled the differential and suspension assembly in SolidWorks CAD.
- Iterated the design around available vendor components to ensure fit and functionality.
Technical decisions
- Balanced custom geometry with off-the-shelf components to keep the assembly practical and buildable.
- Used iterative CAD reviews to identify interference and alignment issues before assembly.
Testing & validation
Validated fit, motion, and assembly functionality through the completed physical model.
Results
Delivered a functional differential and coil-spring suspension assembly.
Challenges
Coordinating team-owned parts while maintaining alignment and compatibility across the full assembly.
What I learned
How technical leadership, interface management, and iterative CAD improve team design outcomes.
